When I needed a hug, I made a webpage with my name real big

As part of Music Hack Day NYC, my parter-in-crime Brian Stoner and I decided to build a fun little app called Disco Slideshow.

It’s sort of like an eCard…except that it’s the kind of eCard that always gets kicked out of class for making someone wet their pants.

Here’s a great screenshot from one of the slideshows:

Dave Noreen's Disco Slideshow

It takes about 60 seconds to make a slideshow, and they are pretty much guaranteed to be funny. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Go to DiscoSlideshow.com
  2. Select a friend from Facebook
  3. List a few of their favorite things
  4. Choose background music

And that’s it. The app instantly creates a slideshow from their Facebook photos and from Google images related to their favorite things. The slides are automatically synchronized to the beat of the background music.

Here are some funny examples: Jameson, Anna, Dave, Gloria, Richard, Chris and Chris.

Of course, most of the projects that came out of Music Hack Day were more serious and substantial. Check out the full list of Music Hack Day projects.

This was one of the most inspiring and well-organized tech events I’ve ever attended. Hats off to John Britton, the folks at The Echo Nest (the awesome software we used for beat synchronization), SoundCloud, General Assembly and everyone else who put on this incredible event.

  • Fun times, +1 on the event organization, really well done.

Glad we could help people pollute the Internet with more slideshows of lolcats and ham sandwiches!

  • And in case you've been in the dark like I was, the Internet has a really solid collection ham sandwich photography:
